Overview

South Luangwa is where the walking safari was born — and it remains one of the best places on earth to do it. This five-day trip pairs guided walks on foot with an armed ranger against classic 4×4 game drives, tracking leopard, elephant and the valley’s famous concentration of wildlife along the Luangwa River. Days are unhurried and built around wildlife activity rather than a fixed schedule, staying at small bush camps inside or bordering the park.

Highlights

Fitness level: Moderate — walks are unhurried but cover uneven bush terrain for 2–3 hours at a time.

Health: Yellow fever and malaria precautions are recommended for this region — consult your doctor before travel.
